Survey Control Monuments

For year Surveyors have tried to find ways to adapt technology to organize and retrieve data on known survey control monuments. Some have used GIS, AutoCAD, websites, or some other application. While they all work to some level they fall short on many. For example take a look at this web site for the County of York in Virginia. This link was found using a couple of searches because its not readily accessible via the main York county Web site.  Luckily we've provided the link directly to the site.

While its a nicely done web site it lacks in probably the most important area, the SEARCH!  There is a nice PDF index map along with a list of downloadable station information for the monuments. The station information PDFs are in groups of 10,  most likely to save space on the page and probably for ease of editing.

What if a surveyor could access a cloudDVD where they could search on a road name, or nearby business, station ID, Lat Long, etc and the data sheet was quickly retrieved?  What if this could be done on a mobile device out in the field? What if a surveyor who recovers the monument could easily document back or report the status of the control monument, and share that info with other local surveyors?

What if I told you all this is possible today and can be done with a few clicks of the mouse?

All of the above questions can be handled by the cloudDVD technology. We can take all the Monument PDFs and in a few minutes convert them into a cloudDVD. By having them in a cloudDVD they become indexed, searchable and can be accessed from any mobile device. When a monument is located the surveyor can make notes about the status of the monument. They can even take a picture or video using their phone and with a couple of clicks upload the file to the cloudDVD so others can see its condition in real time.

The data sheet can also be linked back to a GIS or even Google Maps so that driving directions or the phone's GPS can help navigate to the monument.

Since the cloudDVD is dynamic new monument data sheets can easily be added at any time. No need for a web developer!

At APW-CTS we pride ourselves on finding unique cost effective ways to implement new and existing technology to make your job easier and your productivity faster. To learn more about the cloudDVD capabilities send us an email or call us at mike@apw-cts.com or 8040-897-4813.
